Here at the Alger Theater, we use two traditional-style marquee boards to display messages from members of our community. Every weekend, our dedicated Marquee Team members install each letter the old-fashioned way (by hand). These messages directly support our efforts to continue restoring the Alger Theater.

Common marquee messages include birthdays, anniversaries, and memorials, as well as promotions for events, small businesses, and job opportunities. Just because you don’t see your idea on the list doesn’t mean you can’t request it!

Each board is located facing two major thoroughfares: East Warren Avenue and East Outer Drive. Thousands of people pass our marquees every day on their way between downtown Detroit, the far East Side, the Grosse Pointes, and I-94. We also post marquee messages on our Instagram, so people can see them no matter where they are!
